HI

I have just read in answer to another post that you have no rheumatology department looking after your case as the GP says there is no point.

I respectfully ask that you DEMAND to see a rheumatologist. There is a whole spectrum of RA treatments that are incredibly effective against this progressive disease- some can even slow the disease to a stop. Some go into complete remission. It is very old news that nothing can be done- there is A LOT that can be done.

You have a right to a second opinion but it reads to me that you havent had a first opinion yet!

Not sure where you are in the country but Dr Gabriel at St Thomas's and Guys is excellent. I live in Hampshire and see Dr Chris Edwards at southampton general.

Others can explain who they have found helpful in their area.

I totally agree with you there Jenni, I think it's dreadful that Bever's Gp has said there is no point in referring her to a rheumatologist.

DEMAND to be referred!!!

Hello

Yes read that post.

Your GP is out of order saying not worth referring . That is not
right at all if you have RA you must demand an appointment to see
Specialist and also a Rhummy nurse. It is your right and you
def. need the support.

I agree this is terrible. It's bad enough having RA in the first place but to be told that by your GP grrrrrrrrrr!

I didn't pick up on the original post- but who diagnosed RA in the first place- surely you have to be referred in order to get a diagnosis if RA is suspected?

Oops ... I answered Bevers post yesterday under "RA and Minor Op" but didn't realise poster actually has RA, thought it was Osteo Spondylosis made worse by the car accident. Did kind of wonder why they might be posting on here though! Member lives in Stafford but sees neurologist in London. It sounded more like osteo arthritis perhaps with compression of the spine requiring neurology care - just pure conjecture on my part!!

Surely someone somewhere would have pointed him/her in the direction of a rheumatologist surely ... even if it is in a cave!!!

Hope "Bevers" sees this thread Confused and puts our minds at rest.

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

I can NOT beleive that there are still GP's that will not refer in this day and age. I had this problem 30 odd years ago, but hoped things had changed for the better know. Sad
